1985 C4 Corvette 1985 Corvette Overview While there were few who questioned the technological superiority of the 1984 C4 over earlier generations of Corvette, it’s lack of robust horsepower and outright performance left many questioning this new version of America’s most. Hello, i have an 84 C4 that i plan to convert to a carb, mostly because i am really sick of dealing with the crossfire injection system (CFI) problems such as it running rich, idling way high, occasionall stalling and an overall lack of efficiency.
I have a budget of $750 and this is the parts list i have compiled so far
http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Gasket-9810-Chrome-Breather/dp/B000BWCGA4 x3
The summit carb and related parts are so i have a carb of course, the brackets are for the transmission TV cable (700R4) and the studs hold the carb down
The oil additive is because i have a flat tappet cam car, and new oil does not have ZDDP (zinc additive) in it which causes cam lobe flattening and piston damage if you use oil without it in older engines
The valvecovers are because one of mine has a crack in it
The fuel pressure regulator is because i am converting a car with an electric fuel pump to a carburetor and i need to turn the pressure down
The intake manifold goes below the carb
The breather is for the valve covers
The fuel fittings go to the Fuel Pressure regulator since i dont think it comes with any
The AFR guage i plan to use to help tune the carb, and because since my car already has O2 sensors i might as well use them since the ECU wont need them any more
I think i will need some fuel line
I will need a shorter serpentine belt since i deleted the AIR pump, already measured it

The guage mount is so i have somewhere to mount the AFR guage
and finally, the distributor is because the current computer controlled HEI distributor will likely not work and i will need a vacuum advance dist
My concerns are that my other guages might not work with the ECU not getting an engine running signal, i know the tach and speedo will work since they read from the distributor, bellhousing, and VSS
I know the fuel meter will work since it still functions with the engine off, as does the voltage meter
I am unsure if the oil press, oil temp, and coolant temp guages will still function, and if anybody knows and could tell me it would be helpful.
I plan to leave the ECU in and let it handle various functions such as the power antenna, climate control, light dimmers and hopefully guages.
I have some spare valvecover gaskets i plan to use, along with extra hose clamps, but i will need to buy a air filter once i measure how much clearance i have
If there is anything on my list that can be found cheaper and would still work, please tell me, also i prefer to order from amazon since summit charges me a 7% tax in my state.
